PVC windows - a proven choice for most homes
PVC profiles are still the most commonly installed windows in single-family housing. Their biggest advantage is a very good balance between thermal insulation performance and price - a multi-chamber profile construction (typically 5-7 chambers) effectively limits heat loss. It's a material that works well for standard window sizes, where exceptional structural rigidity isn't required.
Aluminium windows - for large glazing and modern architecture
Aluminium is significantly stiffer than PVC while being much lighter per profile. That makes it the right choice where PVC reaches its limits: very large windows, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass panes, corner glazing. Aluminium profiles also allow for narrower frames at the same strength, meaning more light in the room.
What really affects comfort - not just the frame material
Regardless of the material you choose, real thermal and acoustic comfort depends mainly on the number of chambers and seals in the profile, the installation depth, and the type of glazing unit used. Wood insulates well thermally, but needs periodic upkeep (sanding, repainting) - a time cost worth factoring into the decision alongside the material price itself.
